ABOUT MARTY RYAN, LMP
Marty has taught belly massage and palpatory anatomy seminars across the US since 1998. Marty also served on the faculty of the Seattle Massage School and the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. Marty currently directs the massage therapy department at the Tummy Temple in Seattle, WA, where he maintains his bodywork practice, mentors massage therapists, and outreaches to the community of health care providers in the Puget Sound area about the therapeutic benefits of abdominal bodywork.

It is a combination of massage techniques, stretching and  structural alignment, all designed to restore the blood, lymph, nerve and chi flows to balance and to reposition the internal organs that may have shifted position due to a number of factors from daily wear and tear, falls, trauma or pathology to name but a few.

In an initial session, you will have a comprehensive health history review and consultation with your Maya practitioner. You will then have the Maya Abdominal Therapy session itself, where your practitioner (for women) will assess your uterine position, your hip position and alignment and administer the techniques of the massage and any structural corrections as appropriate.

After the professional session, you will be taught the Self Care routine. We cannot stress enough how important this Self Care massage routine is to your daily health care regime and to the success of the Maya Abdominal Therapy treatment programme. The Self Care massage enables you to maximise the benefits of a professional session and to build momentum to bring balance and harmony back to your overall health, but particularly your pelvic health.

The Self Care massage is a series of movements to be carried out on the upper and lower abdomen. Your practitioner is trained to teach and advise you on these techniques and to let you know when it is safe to perform the massage and at what times you should not use the Self Care techniques. You will also be advised on other supporting strategies that you can do at home depending on your particular condition or health goal.

This is a wonderful therapy, that nurtures the individual on a physical but also on an emotional and spiritual level. Our bodies naturally want to rest in a state of health and harmony, Maya Abdominal Therapy allows us to tune into what needs to be done to help restore that balance.
