Chemical exposure and hormone disruption

Exposure to chemicals, insecticides, pesticides and preservatives etc.. has been shown to alter the hormone balance of healthy women. In addition to this it has been linked to a potential cause of Endometriosis (in addition to low immune response, genetics, retrograde menstruation….the list goes on).

There are many substances in our environment that are potential hormone disruptors, and mostly they are in so-called innocuous products found in many a bathroom cabinet and cleaning cupboard. For eg Parabens are in nearly every skincare and haircare product.

There are however alternatives to these products available in your local healthfood store and now more recently appearing on the shelves in your local supermarket. Remember that your skin is your largest organ, and anything that you put on your skin gets absorbed into your blood stream. Its worth a read of the back of any product you buy to check whether its made from natural ingredients. Yes, these products are usually a few pennies more than the high street brands – but you and your health are a good investment so, to quote a mainstream campaign – You’re worth it! 🙂
